Before the storm.

 I shot this from the car as I left New York a little more than a week ago. The news of a hurricane named Sandy was already out there and the sky was beginning to look ominous. Who could have known what was coming? Today I am thankful that all of my east coast friends and family are safe and doing well despite the challenges that they have had to endure in the last week. I am thinking of you all every day. Stay strong.

An Easter Sunset

I have been fortunate to live near the beach (East and West coast) my entire life. I love watching the sun set and will always be in awe of its beauty. We raced down to the beach yesterday to catch this view. So glad we did. So lucky to live here.

A Self Portrait

I don't know why I hate having my photograph taken so much but I do. After being surrounded by photographers for most of my career and having been photographed so many times, you would think I would be used to it by now. Not so. My love for mirrors and shooting into them is not new but even I was surprised at this recent self portrait. Without showing my face, it captures the essence of me. Subtle, feminine, strong and yet soft. The hint of the tattoo on my back makes me smile.

A Seattle View

I am just back from Seattle. I saw this view of the Space Needle through the hotel window at the end of a busy day. I loved the grid like pattern of the curtains as you peered through them to see this landmark. The light from this long summer day, made the colors soft and pastel.

A Sad Day

I am so sad to learn of the loss of photojournalists Tim Hetherington and Chris Hondros. The photographers who do this, have my deepest respect. The men and women who choose this profession know the risks and dangers all too well. But they are not afraid. They have the courage to tell the stories that others cannot. As I watched the pastel clouds rolling across the sky tonight, I thought about these brave individuals. They will be so missed.

This terrible loss reminded me of what is truly valuable in life. Hug those who are important to you and tell them how much they are loved. Life is short. Don't wait.

White Rose

I am back to obsessing over flowers. I bought this one from the Farmers Market and it was a sweet surprise. It was so full and fragrant. Shot it a million different ways, but liked this one the best. Closing my eyes and remembering how it smelled.

A Ritual

Very early every Saturday morning, I go to the Santa Monica Farmer's Market. It's heaven all by itself. Before I buy anything, I walk through the market and down to the beach. I have been shooting from the same vantage point for the last several weeks, and am amazed at how different the same shot looks, from one week to the next. This morning it was slightly cooler and everything was super dreamy.

Another Bed

I continue to be fascinated by images of beds. I don't know why, but I pretty much love shooting them. Made, unmade and anything in between. A friend told me that she thought this frame looked like a topographical map. This only made me like it more.

A New Year

I cannot believe that another year has come and gone so quickly. After swearing to myself, that I would shoot more, I simply did not. I have tons of excuses to offer, but will save you the misery of hearing them.

New Years Day is my birthday, and this year I went to LACMA to see the William Eggleston show. Seeing the work of brilliant photographers is pure soul food. I have long admired his work, and the show did not disappoint. His work captures the beauty in the most ordinary of places and objects. A master to be sure.

It was a beautiful cool day with bright blue skies. The cold weather amplified the jet trails in the sky which made for beautiful patterns. This shot was taken outside the museum as I was leaving.

My New Years Resolution is to be inspired more, shoot more, and share more. That's it. I can do that.

A Rose

Another simple shot of a rose. As I watched this flower blossom and then quickly fade over several days, it reminded me of the fragility of it all. Here today. Gone tomorrow. I have lost two good friends this year, and I miss them so much. This is for you Randy and Michael. Love you always.

A Summer Day

We have finally had some summer weather after our June gloom carried into July and August. I spent the afternoon at the beach and watched the sun set. It was a perfect California day. Sunny, but with a cool sweet breeze. The sky went from bright blue to a soft pink in minutes. As I was admiring the light, this girl on her bike whizzed past me. I only managed to capture this one frame. Lucky.

A Step

I must confess to something. I have fallen head over heels in love with my iPhone. I loved my Blackberry, but had no idea what I was missing out on. Apps. There. I've said it. I adore the Apps. Most of all, I am crazy about the Hipstamatic. I am addicted to it. I may be headed to Hipstamatic rehab. Today I am sharing the first of many images taken with this new found love. Hope you like it.

A Lovely Dalmatian

This is my sweet Zoe. I adopted her from Dalmatian Rescue in Miami nearly twelve years ago. She was left in a crack house when she was a tiny puppy. She has been the most wonderful dog and loyal companion I could ask for. She is always happy and is usually "smiling". This is a rare moment where she is not doing her Dalmatian grin. She was laying in my bed and the morning light through the white curtains made a perfect soft box. I snapped 4 frames. This was my favorite.

More Peonies

Yes, I love peonies. They are here for such a short time. These pink ones photograph so beautifully. They are so perfect that they almost don't look real.

A White House

I have been wanting to shoot this for some time, but the light was just not quite right. This morning it was cool and overcast...and perfect.

Table For One

A simple photo taken at the house on Broad Street in January. Like many of my images, its simplicity speaks volumes. The light in this house is just beautiful, and ever changing throughout each visit. How I miss it when I am not there.

A Bouquet of Peonies

I don't know where the time has gone. It's been a challenging last six months, and my focus has clearly been elsewhere. I have done a little shooting, but not nearly what I am capable of. I know it's early for a New Years resolution, but I swear I am going to try harder...beginning right now. My attraction to flowers hasn't disappeared, so when I got this particularly lovely bunch of pink peonies, I shot a few frames. I was pleasantly surprised to see this one. It's what I love about shooting. Happy New Year all!

A Dog's View

I love this image of Sebastian. I have to confess that I sent my daughter outside to wave at him to get this shot, but it still makes me smile. It is so simple, but extra sweet.

A Child's View

This is Pari. After flying across the country for the fourth of July, I woke up early the next morning as I usually do. The gardener was outside mowing the lawn, and Pari was very interested in watching him riding back and forth on the riding mower. I quickly ran upstairs to grab my camera and tiptoed back down to grab this shot of her. She's even more precious in person.

A Room

After a fantastic long weekend on the east coast, I have been perusing the images that I shot while I was there. This room keeps coming back to me for some reason, so I thought it would be a good one to share. It's been long empty, but holds lots of stories and memories within it's walls. I love the old wallpaper and the muted color tones.
